In the sunny, peaceful town of St. Augustine, Florida, laughter and bouncing basketballs filled the air at the local playground near the old oak trees. It was late afternoon, and the warm breeze carried the sounds of sneakers squeaking against the court.
Allen and Leo, two middle school classmates and best friends, were playing on the same basketball team along with their other friends. Allen was quick and focused, always watching for the perfect pass, while Leo was calm and confident, cheering everyone on. Together, they made a great team.
The match was exciting. Allen dribbled past defenders, Leo set smart screens, and their teammates worked together with energy and teamwork. When the final whistle blew, their team had won by a few points. Everyone clapped, laughed, and high-fived each other, proud of how well they had played together.

After the match, the boys gathered near the bench, wiping sweat from their faces and sipping water. Their coach, Coach Bob, walked over with a warm smile.
“Great game, everyone,” Coach Bob said. “You played with teamwork and discipline today. That’s what really matters.”
Allen nodded. “Coach, playing basketball makes me feel strong and happy. It helps me forget stress from school.”
Leo added, “And it keeps us healthy too. My parents always say physical activity is a gift from God.”
Coach Bob smiled even wider. “That’s very true, Leo. Taking care of our bodies is important. Exercise keeps our hearts strong, but there’s something else just as important.”
“Prayer?” Allen asked.
“Yes,” Coach Bob replied. “Prayer keeps our minds and hearts strong. When we pray, we thank God for our health, our friends, and the ability to play. It helps us stay humble, focused, and grateful.”
The boys sat quietly for a moment, thinking. Then Leo said, “Before every match, I say a small prayer to do my best and play fair.”
“That’s a wonderful habit,” Coach Bob said. “When prayer and physical activity go together, we grow healthier—inside and out.”
As the sun began to set, painting the sky with soft orange and pink colors, the boys packed up their basketballs. Allen and Leo walked home together, feeling tired but happy.
They knew that staying healthy wasn’t just about winning games—it was about moving their bodies, caring for their faith, and supporting one another as friends.
And in the peaceful town of St. Augustine, that lesson stayed with them long after the court grew quiet. 🏀
